First-time feature filmmaker Kathleen Hepburn’s quietly intense portrait of grief and independence is set in an isolated community in visually stunning British Columbia. Hepburn’s film, drawn partly from her own experiences of her mother’s Parkinson’s disease, tells the story of Judy, a woman in her fifties who has had the condition for almost the entire length of her marriage to Ed, with whom she has a wayward son. It’s a deeply moving film that celebrates the strength of human spirit, especially in troubled and challenging times.
