Giffoni Experience Film Festival

This year an Irish delegation of jurors as part of ADIFF's Fantastic Flix were invited to the Giffoni Film Festival's Generator 13+ and 16+ categories.

This April I was invited as a chaperone and delegate to the 47th Giffoni Experience Film Festival from July 12th-24th to represent ADIFF Fantastic Flix, along with 4 Irish jurors in the Generator 13+ and 16+ categories. I was very fortunate to travel with 4 wonderful, bright, young Irish jurors made up of Sarah, Cai, Ryan and Comhghal. Their blogs capture the fantastic atmosphere and exchange at Giffoni much better than I can - so we've grouped them all together here for you to read:

The Giffoni Experience (GEX) is one of the most established children’s film festivals in the world. Set-up by artistic director Claudio Gubitosi when he was just 17 years old, the festival has a long history of show-casing international children's cinema, with a guest line-up that has included: Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, Amy Adams, Bryan Cranston, Julianne Moore and famously after François Truffaut’s visit he said “Of all the film festivals Giffoni is the most necessary.”

GEX takes place in a small Italian town of Giffoni Valle Piana in Campania, Southern Italy, close to Salerno and Naples. Each year this small town comes alive with Italian and International children and young people who flock to Giffoni for 10 days of festival activities where kids are king and the locals embrace the celebrations.
