This screenwriting masterclass will provide the unique experience to hear directly from one of the film industry's most prolific and successful screenwriters and directors, Oscar-winning Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Adaptation). This is a fantastic opportunity for screenwriters and filmmakers to gain an insight into how Kaufman successfully navigated the film industry, how he developed such a recognisable and distinctive writing style, as well as how Kaufman's screenwriting career influenced his later directorial work.

This masterclass will focus on Kaufman's unique approach to screenwriting and delve into the various elements that are integral to the delivery of quality work. The overall aim of the class is to help screenwriters and filmmakers hone a distinct voice in their own creative work.

The masterclass will begin as an interview-style workshop in a discussion/lecture setting. Kaufman will participate in Q&A session with Irish screenwriter Mark O'Halloran (Adam and Paul, Garage, Rialto), delving into specifics about the screenwriting process. The discussion will then be open to the participants.

Screening illustrative clips from many of his films, Kaufman will talk the participants through the process of translating his work from the script to the final film. The number of participants will be capped at 30 to maintain a more intimate discussion type feel to the event and thus enabling those participants to get more of a direct engagement with the tutor.
