On Valentine’s Day, Give a Movie

Whether you've got company or flying solo - Valentine's Day is the perfect excuse to treat your other half, a friend or yourself!

We've put together a collection of films from the DIFF 2021 programme which will satisfy film lovers on both ends of the romantic spectrum from the loved-up dreamers to the romance realists and everything in between.

From forbidden passions to kooky crushes, they're all films about love, from very (very) different perspectives.

AMMONITE, Francis Lee

Loosely inspired by the life of the palaeontologist Mary Anning (Kate Winslet), the movie is set on the south coast of England in the 1840s and sees Mary embarking on a remarkable and passionate love affair with Charlotte (Saoirse Ronan), a married woman who is suffering a personal trauma. Highly suggested if you liked Portait of a lady on fire by Céline Sciamma.

DINNER IN AMERICA, Adam Carter Rehmeier

Punk rocker Simon and his young super-fan Patti cross paths and they start a wild journey across the fading suburbs of the American Midwest. Pitch-black humour and mischief blend into a touching romance that changes the characters’ lives.
