  1. Festival 2021

What to Expect at VMDIFF21

Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival is back, with some exciting changes.

There's no doubt that 2020 has been a strange year, but never has film been more important in bringing people together, showing us the power of shared experience and allowing us to explore the world in new ways.

In 2021, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Virgin Media DIFF has been re-imagined to bring our audiences the best of new films and old classics, all while allowing you to attend the festival in the safest way possible.

In Cinemas

The Festival will be returned to our beloved cinema venues in 2021, bringing exciting new Irish films and our Gala screenings to the big screen. Cinema screenings will have a limited capacity (currently 50 people per government regulations) and ticket booking will allow for social distancing between groups.

The Festival and festival venues will be ensuring that all safety requirements are followed so you can enjoy your festival experience with peace of mind.

Please note: Cinema tickets will be limited to 2 per person per screening.

At Home

Walk Your Own Red Carpet!

This year we will be bringing some of the festival programme right to you, via our new screening platform Eventive.

Films will have a premiere start time and will be available for 48hours from purchase. This means you can join us for a watch party with our guests, or watch the film whenever suits you! With filmmaker intros and Q&As with talent, it's a little slice of the festival, straight to your sofa.

Screenings on our online platform can be watched in either the 26 or 32 counties so put on the popcorn and join us for VMDIFF21 from wherever you are in the country!

Outdoor Screenings

Friday Night is Movie Night in Temple Bar!

The Festival will be taking over Meeting House Square in Temple Bar for both Fridays of the Festival to present a selection of silent and short films. Protected from the elements, the Outdoor Screenings will be free ticketed events and social distancing will be maintained at all events.

Meet a friend, bring a hot drink and join us for a unique event in Dublin City Centre!

Drive-ins

The perfect event for you and your bubble! Our Drive-in screenings at Junction6 in Castleknock will bring some classic films and hidden gems to the screen. With each film connected to a strand in the main festival programme, its the perfect opportunity to see a piece of cinema history.
