The Marching Band

Emmanuel Courcol
In search of a bone marrow donor, acclaimed conductor Thibaut (Benjamin Lavernhe) learns that he was adopted and has an older brother, Jimmy (Pierre Lottin), who works in a school canteen and plays trombone in a brass band in northern France. Everything separates Thibaut and Jimmy, except their love of music. The reunion of the brothers sparks a fraternal, melodious journey amidst a local factory closure and ends up as a luminous tale of generosity and inspiration. Emmanuel Courcol's Cannes film picks up a familiar premise but executes it with exceptional sensitivity and technical finesse. There are tears but there is also laughter and love.
