DIFF CIRCLE

We believe that supporting filmmakers extends far beyond screening their work — it’s about building connections, sharing knowledge, and creating opportunities that last all year round. That’s why we created DIFF Circle, a dedicated series of events, workshops, and networking sessions designed to empower filmmakers at every stage of their careers.

DIFF Circle is more than just a programme — it’s a growing community of storytellers, creators, and industry professionals coming together to learn, share, and shape the future of cinema. Whether you’re an emerging director, an experienced producer, or a screenwriter with a story to tell, DIFF Circle offers a welcoming space to gain valuable insights and connect with your peers.

DIFF Circle: Feature Film Festival Strategy

6pm | Tuesday 21st October 2025 | ONLINE

Join us for an exclusive DIFF Circle conversation bringing together leading festival programmers and emerging filmmakers from Ireland and beyond to explore how great films make it to the big screen.

This edition is hosted by Peggy Mac Hale (Dublin International Film Festival), who works alongside DIFF’s Executive Festival Director to shape the festival’s artistic programme and leads its outreach initiatives throughout the year.

She’ll be joined by Artistic Director James Faust (Dallas International Film Festival), who has programmed for multiple major U.S. festivals and has served on juries and panels around the world; Emilie Bujès (Visions du Réel), Artistic Director of one of Europe’s most respected documentary festivals in Nyon, Switzerland; and Outi Rehn (Helsinki International Film Festival), Head of Programme at Finland’s biggest and boldest film festival, with a particular interest in animation and Asian cinema.

Together, they’ll discuss their programming philosophies, curatorial choices, and the evolving global festival landscape. The session will explore how festivals define their identity through film selection, balance artistic vision with audience reach, and champion new voices in cinema.

Also featured in this DIFF Circle event will be DIFF Discovery Award Winners 2025: writer and actor Clare Monnelly (Cat & Mouse, Grace), screenwriter Cara Loftus (Spilt Milk), and cinematographer Albert Hooi (Bunker Baby, Nay Day). Meet three rising Irish talents whose work has already captured the attention of festival programmers and audiences alike.

Expect an open, international discussion filled with practical advice, candid reflections, and inspiration for anyone looking to understand how film programming works from both sides of the screen.

This event is free to attend – early booking is required
