In Memory of Jasmim Lobos

Two summers ago, 15 young creatives were brought together by the Dublin International Film Festival to take part in the Irish Film Curators programme – a project that aimed to unite aspiring filmmakers through curatorial practice. Over the course of 3 months, we worked closely alongside one another to craft a film festival that felt personal to us. Jazz was an integral part of making the Be Kind, Rewind festival what it became.

Jazz was fun, outspoken & open. We really bonded working on the ‘Be Kind Rewind’  project. I remember the evening we spent talking to strangers to promote the festival; we laughed and giggled our way through the whole thing. We stayed in touch after the project, and even through her treatment, she managed to send me voice notes, maintaining her humour. The film world has definitely lost a special talent & character in Jazz.

Jazz was always so kind and generous with her time. No matter how many times I asked for help she was always willing to give me a call or send over a voice note - she was always willing to take time out of her day for whoever needed it. While we didn’t keep in touch after the programme, we would always show support to one another’s achievements. Her kindness helped me in ways I don’t think she ever knew - I don’t think I’d still be curating if it wasn’t for her.

Jazz’s motivation and passion for film was only surpassed by her kindness and openness to friendship. She had an ease with everyone, and was a beautiful person inside and out. She will be dearly missed.
