Introducing the DIFF Media Hub: New Voices in Film Journalism

At the Dublin International Film Festival, we believe that cinema doesn’t exist in isolation; it thrives through conversation, criticism, and curiosity. That’s why we’re excited to launch of the DIFF Media Hub, a new initiative supported by The Arts Council, designed to nurture and amplify a broad range of voices in Irish film journalism.

Launching as part of DIFF 2026, the Media Hub brings together an exciting mix of eighteen emerging critics, established writers, podcasters and content creators. These eighteen people will receive exclusive access to the festival, along with editorial support, mentoring, and the opportunity to publish across DIFF platforms.

Why a Media Hub, and why now?

Across film festivals and cultural organisations internationally, there’s a growing recognition that film criticism needs to reflect the diversity and complexity of contemporary audiences. As traditional media landscapes continue to evolve and new platforms emerge, it’s more important than ever to support writing and commentary that is inclusive, thoughtful, and connected to how people engage with cinema today.

The DIFF Media Hub is a direct response to that moment.

Building on DIFF’s long-standing commitment to professional development and audience engagement, the Hub creates space for writers and commentators to develop their craft and and build a body of published work — all while helping audiences discover new films.

What will the Media Hub produce?

Throughout the lead-up to and duration of DIFF 2026, Media Hub participants will create a wide range of content, including:

  • Film previews and features

  • Interviews with filmmakers

  • Podcasts and audio pieces

  • Short-form digital content and behind-the-scenes perspectives

With access to the full DIFF programme, filmmakers and events, Media Hub contributors will offer alternative viewpoints and fresh perspectives, adding depth and texture to the audience experience of the festival.

A space for collaboration and exchange

A key aim of the Media Hub is to foster collaboration across generations of writers and critics. By bringing emerging voices into conversation with more established practitioners, the initiative encourages peer exchange and the building of professional networks that extend beyond the festival itself.

Speaking about the launch, Peggy MacHale, DIFF Festival Programmer, said:

“The DIFF Media Hub reflects our belief that film culture is strongest when a wide range of voices are supported, heard, and published. This initiative creates a space for writers at different stages of their careers to develop, collaborate, and contribute to how audiences engage with cinema today. We’re delighted to launch the Hub with the support of The Arts Council and look forward to sharing the work it produces.”

Looking ahead

The DIFF Media Hub forms part of DIFF’s year-round commitment to sector development, audience engagement and cultural participation, ensuring that film criticism and conversation continue to evolve alongside the artform itself.

Content from the DIFF Media Hub will be published across diff.ie and DIFF’s social platforms throughout the 2026 festival season. Watch this space!
