The Surfer
Lorcan Finnegan
This film will be followed by a 20 minute Q&A
In Lorcan Finnegan's fourth feature, a man returns to the idyllic beach of his childhood to surf with his son only to realise that he is not welcome in what used to be his home. He is not even a guest but an intruder. This unnamed man (Nicolas Cage) is humiliated by a group of powerful locals and drawn into a conflict that rises with the punishing heat of the summer. This entertaining sandy Cannes film rides the big wave, engaging with issues of toxic masculinity as its eponymous protagonist slowly unravels on the Australian coast.
