Established in 2021, Earth Rising is Ireland’s leading festival exploring the intersection of climate, culture, and collective action, presented by IMMA

Earlier this month, we were delighted to team up with IMMA to present three film screenings on their Living Canvas screen, the largest outdoor art screen in Europe and presented by IPUT, as part of Earth Rising 2025 (12-14 Sep).
Earth Rising invites audiences to engage with the big questions of our time through the lens of art, creativity, and community. Inspired by Staying with the Trouble, IMMA's acclaimed group exhibition based on Donna Haraway's influential text, the festival explored how we might live differently in a time of planetary breakdown, not by turning away from complexity, but by staying with it, together.
We specially selected 3 films, each chosen for their striking visuals and unique interpretation of human impact on climate: The Irish premiere of Black Butterflies, multi award-winning 2024 animation Flow, and groundbreaking 1987 documentary Koyaanisqatsi.
Thank you to everyone who joined us over the weekend, rain or shine!
Next, check out Iveta Rusinova's review of Day 2 of these Earth Rising screenings, which included Flow and Cartoon Saloon's Éiru:
